Ensemble for Late Medieval Polyphony
Via Artis was founded in Milan (in 1998) by two enthusiastic students of Pedro Memelsdorff’s medieval music courses at the Civica Scuola di Musica. The ensemble has performed in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal and Spain, featuring members of different nationality in a variety of different formations.
The ensemble is devoted to vocal and instrumental music from the 14th and early 15th centuries. Its approach to this highly sensitive and sophisticated repertoire is fresh, lively and immediate.
Presently based in Amsterdam, Via Artis plays frequently in the Netherlands. The group’s most recent International appearances include such festivals as: the Festival van Zeeuwsch-Vlaanderen 2003, the International Young Artists Presentation - Early Music 2004 in Antwerp, the Fringe program of the Holland Festival Oude Muziek 2004 in Utrecht, the main program of the XXVII Festival de Música Antiga 2004 in Barcelona and the Kasteelconcerten in 2006 in the Netherlands.
